Reading Update:

Sean McDowell paints a pretty realistic picture of modern spirituality.  He says, "the spiritual lives of many people have become all about personal preferences and what makes them feel good about themselves and the world rather than what is really true."  He references a book entitled Souls in Transition, where the author, Christian Smith,  names this spiritual condition "Moralistic Therapeutic Deism" and gives it five core beliefs:
  1. A God exists who created and orders the world and watches over human life on earth.
  2.  God wants people to be good, nice, and fair to each other.
  3. The central goal of life is to be happy and to feel good about oneself.
  4. God does not want to particularly involved in one's life except when God is needed to solve a problem.
  5. Good people go to heaven when they die.
Have you heard these false beliefs before?  Or worse yet, Do you believe some of these false beliefs?  We need to get back to the truth of God's word and let his truth rule in our lives!  Just a quick update from my reading.
